Hello, and
welcome to another of my sites which provides free help and advice, this
time on obesity facts. I know how hard it can be to find
good quality, impartial and reliable advice, particularly as a woman, on
this increasingly important issue. As someone who has struggled all her life
with a weight problem, I am deeply aware of how upsetting the problem of
obesity can be, both from a personal perspective, and also from a medical
point of view. Over the years my weight has fluctuated wildly, and as I have
become older, the harder it seems to become to reverse the trend of
weight gain. However, help is at hand, as I am living proof that it is
possible to achieve your ideal weight, and please don't worry - I am not
going to advise diets, pills, potions, exercise, surgery or anything else.
My success has been based on common sense, an understanding of foods, and
finally and most importantly, the danger of sugar in our daily diet.
The last of these is probably the one that is least understood, and until recently I was completely unaware of why I found it almost impossible to lose weight. If, like me, you find it almost impossible, whatever you try, please don't worry as help is at hand. On the following pages I hope you will find the information, help and advice, which will explain why it is so difficult, and how with a little knowledge of the problem, and some simple changes, you will be successful. I won't say it is easy, but once you begin to understand the role sugar plays in our diet, then you will begin to see how, with a few changes, we can start to take that all important first step to losing weight. The key to success is to remove sugar from your diet, not faddy low fat diets, or supposedly healthy low fat foods, and please forget all you have ever been told by the diet industry.
I hope that this site on obesity facts will provide that 'eureka moment' when you will at last begin to understand why obesity is often not your fault - it is generally genetic, medical, emotional, or you simply have a predisposition to weight gain. The first issue is to understand the problem before we can provide the solution - so let's start with the weight loss industry, which sadly I know so well!!
Ever since the age of fourteen when my weight problems really started, I have tried every pill, potion and diet offered by the weight loss industry. All have one thing in common - they all failed, and no doubt the reason you are visiting this site is that none of these have worked for you either. The only 'weight loss' I have never tried is surgery, so I cannot comment on the long term benefits or otherwise. Personally I believe this is the solution of last resort, but no doubt it can and does work in specific cases. My objective here on obesity facts, is to provide you with the reasons we all suffer, and to help you understand that it is often not your fault. The weight loss industry however would make you believe otherwise. Diet and exercise is the mantra that is wheeled out every time obesity hits the headlines. If this were the case, there would not be a problem. If we all went on a diet and walked half an hour a day, according to the weight loss industry obesity would disappear overnight.
Now clearly exercise is good for our general health, but in itself it provides little benefit to weight loss, either on it's own, or in conjunction with a diet. Like you I have pounded the running machines, sweating away for hours in the forlorn hope that I might lose a few ounces or grams. The reverse generally happens with the increased muscle weight simply adding to the problem!! I hate to think how much I have spent over the years on gym membership ( mostly little used), exercise bikes ( idle in the loft), running machines ( sold on EBay) and a vast collection of the 'latest must have' instrument of torture to flatten, enhance, reduce, increase or change some part of your anatomy. They have all been sold or are in a cupboard gathering dust. Most were absurd, or just plain ridiculous, but at the time you believe that you have found the answer, the solution to your problem. What is so sad, that even after each failure, we still continue to view the next gadget or exercise regime as the 'wonder solution'. Diets are even worse, generally endorsed by the latest stick insect celebrity, and often accompanied by a book. We rush off to buy the book and try the diet in a vain attempt to achieve stick like status. Two weeks later having lost nothing, spent a fortune on strange food, stocked up the cupboards with a variety of ingredients, and probably felt ill for several days, we eventually admit defeat. The book is given to a charity shop and the ingredients never used again until you move some years later!!
OK, let's start on obesity facts by looking at insulin and its effect on our bodies and food.
